For a moped, scooter, motorcycle or quad bike, engine lubrication is done either par pump be par the oil-gasoline mixture. This guarantees a longer life for your engine. If the quality of the oil has a lot to do with it, the quantity of oil to be mixed also plays a role. But how do you calculate the percentage of oil to add to your mixture?
Depending on your riding terrain, the oil-to-gasoline mixture can vary anywhere from XNUMX% to XNUMX%. A XNUMX% mix will be fine for city rides, no hills. For steep roads, you can push up to XNUMX%. Do not go beyond the risk of attacking your engine. The proportion of oil will be higher if you are in the break-in period: use a mixture at XNUMX% instead of XNUMX% par example.
For gasoline, choose unleaded fuel, XNUMX-SPXNUMX or XNUMX-SP XNUMX or SPXNUMX depending on the machine. Be sure to read the manufacturer's recommendations carefully.
Before attacking the mixture, it is advisable to choose the good engine oil XNUMX time for your machine. Three types of oils are present on the market:
Heavy-duty engines generally prefer XNUMX% synthetic oil. For city trips and average performance, a semi-synthetic oil will do.
The brands on the market offer quality products with more specific uses. Also find on our website: How to choose the right oil ?
The choice will be made according to the use of the engine. The higher the performance, the better the oil should be.
The amount of oil depends on its quality
First of all, a quick reminder about liter/milliliter conversions: XNUMX liter of gasoline = XNUMXml.
To obtain the volume of oil for a XNUMX% mixture, you must therefore calculate as follows: (% of the mixture x volume of essence in ml) / XNUMX = volume of oil in ml to add, i.e. (XNUMX x XNUMX) / XNUMX = XNUMXxXNUMX = XNUMX ml.
For XNUMX liters of gasoline and XNUMX% mixture (XNUMX x XNUMX) / XNUMX = XNUMX x XNUMX = XNUMX ml.
For more convenience, use an oil measuring cup in ml to know the quantity of oil to add to your essence without the fuss.
For a cyclo (motorcycle, scooter or quad), the gasoline oil mixture can vary from XNUMX% to XNUMX% depending on the type of rolling terrain.
If your mixture is low on oil, or the oil quality is poor, there is a risk of engine seizure. The lack of oil will lead to abnormal heating of the moving parts of the engine, causing expansion of the metals.
Release of smoke from the exhaust, loss of performance indicate an overdose of oil. This excess can lead to spark plug fouling and ignition failure.
Remember to mix the contents of the tank well by shaking your bike a little. This will prevent the oil from remaining in the bottom without mixing with the gasoline. The mixture must be fairly homogeneous.
Too much white smoke coming out of your engine? Review your mixture, the quantity of oil must be too high.
Please note that the mixture will not keep for more than one to three months depending on the storage conditions. It should therefore not be left in the tank for too long.
Step XNUMX : Measure and note the amount of gasoline
Step XNUMX : Calculate the amount of oil according to the amount of gasoline
Step XNUMX : On a perfectly flat work surface, place your dispenser and pour in the quantity of oil required (following your calculation). Take a good look at the graduation to avoid an overdose.
Step XNUMX : Pour the oil into the gasoline container. In order to recover all the contents, dilute a little gasoline and stir.
Step XNUMX : Close the container and shake so as to make the mixture homogeneous.
Step XNUMX : Open the container and let the vapors escape.
Step XNUMX : Pour the mixture into your petrol tank.
If you have to use your mixture in several times, remember that its conservation is limited. Remember to mix well before use.
