Motorcycle, quad and car technical control without a license

During an interview (XNUMX-XNUMX-XNUMX), Minister Clement Beaune announced that technical control will become a reality for all motorized two-wheelers in France from the first half of XNUMX.

technical control

Who is concerned ?

From XNUMX cmXNUMX passing par the largest displacements, whether motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, side-car but also quads, the directive puts everyone in the same basket: "motorized vehicles with two or three wheels and motorized quadricycles, vehicles of category LXNUMXe, LXNUMXe, LXNUMXe, LXNUMXth, LXNUMXth, LXNUMXth and LXNUMXth”. No vehicle is forgotten: cars without a license are also concerned. The technical control is chargeable: between XNUMX and XNUMX € per visit, to be carried out every two years, as for cars. Note that the "collector vehicles" will have a little more respite with visits increased to XNUMX years.

The existing fleet is between XNUMX and XNUMX million vehicles, of which around half are over XNUMX years old and will be affected.

Motorcycles and scooters put into circulation before XNUMX will be the first to be affected. All category L vehicles are concerned.

An offense could lead the insurance company to refuse coverage in the event of a traffic accident. For unbridled vehicles, the risk is that braking power is no longer guaranteed. Braking becomes slow, which endangers the lives of other road users. It must be said that this is a frequent offense especially because motorcyclists want to drive at high speeds in order to experience strong sensations.

What control?

The government plans to pass a light check, according to a government note. The European directive of XNUMX provides for the same control points as cars: registration, brakes, tires, lighting… but also pollution and noise.

The control itself will also be very much reduced since the Minister mentions here no less than four times fewer control points than on cars. The list of control points is specified in the draft decree.

Finally, the Minister confirms the objective of maintaining a cost around XNUMX euros. On the other hand, on this last point, it is the control centers that will have the last word.

This is a major change for all users of motorized two-wheelers and it is therefore crucial to stay informed of future official announcements regarding the timing and modalities of this control. We will be sure to keep you informed.

A public consultation on the main lines of the project and on the decrees and orders is open until July XNUMX.

The consultation collected some XNUMX opinions. A record rarely reached, proof of the mobilization of motorcyclists and users of motorized two wheels on this sensitive subject. With the publication of the results, the ministry takes note of these comments, but most of the objections raised are dismissed, with the exception of all-terrain motorcycles which could benefit from a special diet given the fact that they very rarely place their pacifiers on the asphalt.
