Tip

You don't transport a motorcycle on a trailer like a pile of rubble. First, your motorcycle is heavier. It will move, with the shocks of the road, the bumps, the pressures during braking, accelerations and more still, of turns.

1 - If you are using a trailer, attach it to your vehicle. Place the safety of the ball, connect the electrical outlet. Check that the trailer is properly hitched.

2 - Whether it's a trailer or a van, you will necessarily need a ramp loading.

Install the rail or ramp. Glue skate grip on the rail to facilitate the climb.

3 - While standing next to it, place the motorcycle in front of the ramp, go up in one go, without pausing during the ascent to the force arms. If the motorcycle is very heavy, start and climb in the same way.

Secure your vehicle correctly:

It’s time to secure the vehicle. We recommend that you get help. If transporting by van or if the trailer has a floor, put the motorcycle on the stand.

It is very important to protect the painted parts (fairing) from any friction, particularly on the sangles d'arrimage. To do this, plan the amount of rags to slide between the straps and the fairings.

2 pair of ratchet straps will be required (minimum 2 meters in length). Check the weight of your motorcycle and the weight supported by the straps. forces pull down will be well distributed.

Choose the anchor points on the trailer or in the van, and those on the motorcycle: Footrest plate, frame or rear buckle for the rear and fork crown or handlebar for the before. Don't leave the keys in the ignition.

First install the straps without tightening them, in order to check that they are correctly positioned, that nothing is obstructing their course and that they are not likely to move.

Tighten the straps gradually, moving from one strap to another, preferably diametrically opposite (crosswise)… so that the machine always has the overall even force voltage that applies.

To attach his motorcycle to a trailer specially designed for this purpose, the driver must refer to the instructions issued par the manufacturer in order to strap his vehicle in an optimal way. Typically, the motorcycle will need to be tied down at the front at 45° angles, while the rear will need to be strapped perpendicular to the trailer.

Why fix your motorcycle or scooter properly?

Securing your vehicle properly allows you to prevent:

- The inclination of the motorcycle during the journey

- Rolling forwards or backwards,

- The sliding of the tires: laterally, to the right or to the left.

Le fork wedge (or fork block) for transport which locks the fork without compressing the springs. It prevents damage to the fork oil seals. The fork lock is essential when transporting on a trailer

Un wheel lock can complete the equipment. It keeps the motorcycle upright and prevents any back and forth movement.

To check that the motorcycle is properly secured, shake the motorcycle, the trailer should move with it. The free strands of the straps will be tied so as not to flap in the wind and risk tearing or rolling up in the wheels of the trailer.

Contrary to popular belief, do not engage a gear, this could damage the gearbox.

Last step :

On the road, remember to check the securing at each stop. If you have to take your eyes off the trailer and the motorcycle, put a anti theft homologated on the motorcycle.

Have you arrived at your destination? the last tricky step is unloading.

- Place your ramp. Its point of support must be stable.

- Gradually loosen the straps starting atar the one on your side, consider countering the rocking motion. If the floor is flat, leave the side stand on.

- Loosen the other straps. Once the motorcycle is free, position yourself on the left and start to roll it back, without the engine.

- Gently lower your motorcycle onto the rail. 4 fingers on the front brake lever, in one go like going uphill.

Accompany the movement to the ground. Be careful not to get carried away par the inertia of the motorcycle, if it reverses too quickly.

Practical guide to the trailer and the motorcycle carrier

The use of a trailer requires the installation of a coupling system.

- The motorcycle trailer : only dedicated to the transport of two wheels, it does not allow the motorcycle to be put on the stand during transport. Models that can carry up to 3 motorcycles abreast.

- The traditional trailer : There are all kinds of trailers: with single or double axle, in galvanized or painted steel, tilting, with removable ramps, with winch…

If the trailer weighs less than 500 kilograms loaded, it will have the same registration as your towing vehicle and will be included in your insurance contract. If it is heavier, it will have its own registration and you will have to take out additional insurance.

The B license is sufficient to tow a trailer if the PTAC (total authorized weight) does not exceed 750 kg.
