For a moped, scooter, motorcycle or quad bike, engine lubrication is done either par pump be par the oil-gasoline mixture. This guarantees a longer life for your engine. If the quality of the oil has a lot to do with it, the quantity of oil to be mixed also plays a role. But how do you calculate the percentage of oil to add to your mixture?

Depending on your riding terrain, the oil-to-gasoline mixture can vary anywhere from 2% to 4%. A 2% mix will be fine for city rides, no hills. For steep roads, you can push up to 4%. Do not go beyond the risk of attacking your engine. The proportion of oil will be higher if you are in the break-in period: use a mixture at 2,5% instead of 2% par example.

WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE OIL TO MIX?

For gasoline, choose unleaded fuel, 5-SP95 or 10-SP 95 or SP98 depending on the machine. Be sure to read the manufacturer's recommendations carefully.

Before attacking the mixture, it is advisable to choose the good engine oil 2 time for your machine. Three types of oils are present on the market:

THE100% synthetic oil (or synthetic): this contains additives to prevent engine wear, keep it clean, reduce friction, prevent rust and keep the oil viscous and liquid at all times. temperatures
L'semi-synthetic oil : mixture of mineral oil (70-80%) and synthetic oil (30-20%) for good cold lubrication
L'mineral oil : this type of oil is half as lubricating as synthetic oils. suitable for heat engines with low rotation speeds.

Heavy-duty engines generally prefer 100% synthetic oil. For city trips and average performance, a semi-synthetic oil will do.

The choice will be made according to the use of the engine. The higher the performance, the better the oil should be.

The amount of oil depends on its quality

for mineral oil, the mixture will be 5 to 6%
for a semi-synthetic oil, it will be up to 3%
for a synthetic oil it can be diluted to 2%

WHAT CALCULATION FOR YOUR 2 TEM OIL-FUEL MIXTUREPS ?

First of all, a quick reminder about liter/milliliter conversions: 1 liter of gasoline = 1000ml.

To obtain the volume of oil for a 2% mixture, you must therefore calculate as follows: (% of the mixture x volume of essence in ml) / 100 = volume of oil in ml to add, i.e. (2 x 1000) / 100 = 2x10 = 20 ml.

For 5 liters of gasoline and 3% mixture (3 x 5000) / 100 = 3 x 50 = 150 ml.

For more convenience, use an oil measuring cup in ml to know the quantity of oil to add to your essence without the fuss.

For a cyclo (motorcycle, scooter or quad), the gasoline oil mixture can vary from 2% to 4% depending on the type of rolling terrain.

WHAT RISK IF MY MIXTURE IS NOTST NOT GOOD ?

If your mixture is low on oil, or the oil quality is poor, there is a risk of engine seizure. The lack of oil will lead to abnormal heating of the moving parts of the engine, causing expansion of the metals.

Release of smoke from the exhaust, loss of performance indicate an overdose of oil. This excess can lead to spark plug fouling and ignition failure.

FINAL ADVICE BEFORE STARTING

Remember to mix the contents of the tank well by shaking your bike a little. This will prevent the oil from remaining in the bottom without mixing with the gasoline. The mixture must be fairly homogeneous.
Too much white smoke coming out of your engine? Review your mixture, the quantity of oil must be too high.

Please note that the mixture will not keep for more than one to three months depending on the storage conditions. It should therefore not be left in the tank for too long.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MIXTURE

Step 1 : Measure and note the amount of gasoline

Step 2 : Calculate the amount of oil according to the amount of gasoline

Step 3 : On a perfectly flat work surface, place your dispenser and pour in the quantity of oil required (following your calculation). Take a good look at the graduation to avoid an overdose.

Step 4 : Pour the oil into the gasoline container. In order to recover all the contents, dilute a little gasoline and stir.

Step 5 : Close the container and shake so as to make the mixture homogeneous.

Step 6 : Open the container and let the vapors escape.

Step 7 : Pour the mixture into your petrol tank.

If you have to use your mixture in several times, remember that its conservation is limited. Remember to mix well before use.
