MBK Booster

History of the MBK Booster

We do not suspect but the Booster appeared in 1989, yes already! As you know, Yamaha having bought the Motobécane brand in 1983 renamed MBK, the scooter models are distributed under both brands, in this case the booster for MBK and the BW's to Yamaha. Attention it must be pronounced, we say biwize! Designed forar the Japanese firm for the Japanese, it's a real flop there.

It is the French factory of Saint Quentin that will take again the manufacture, then betting on the European and French market in priority to make known the model. The success is immediate and allows to reach important production rates to reach 26 000 sales in 1993!
This success will be confirmed for a decade. MBK has certainly found here the replacement (or the cannibal?) Of his mythical moped, which she will begin to run out of sales in the late 90.

Derived models around a name

Booster is a name that pleases and continues to please, as much use it! It is then that one sees appearing special series derived from the basic model: Booster 12 ", 12" Naked, Naked, Booster 13 ", 13" Naked, Spirit, Original, Deezer, Dark dog, Rip curl... There is enough to get lost in it all the same! Well, to make it simple naked is equipped with a handlebar "cross"and a specific digital counter, then the 12" or 13 "versions correspond to the diameter of the rims that will be mounted to it originally (instead of the historic 10 inches) .This thing that the young tuners had already done for a long time to improve their machine. Booster "base", or the "real" if we can say, we note mainly a slight overhaul that took place in 2004 including changing the lower part of the front more "overlapping". This design will be kept until the end.

MBK Booster Rocket

MBK Booster Rocket

A version really "apart" with a much more specific design has also emerged in 1995, the famous Rocket ! Called Next Generation at Yamaha, it has more aggressive fairings and especially a double optical headlight that differentiates it much from his big brother. It also adopts new wheels and tires more typical road. A version Booster X has even appeared, with an 4 time engine. We also forbade ourselves to put his photo here, this one looking as much like a cooler as a scooter! A copy of Booster is currently manufactured forar a Chinese brand (not distributed in France).

Unfortunately no real successor (MBK disappears and Yamaha keep them Nitro et Ovetto 4 in the catalog), the flame goes out in 2017. The decline of the market for years concerning the scooter being confirmed, this threatened its future, the anti-pollution standard Euro 4 will have completed it. Mass produced in France throughout its career, it is inevitably frustrating to see it go as the moped did just fifteen years ago. And like her, it will certainly be a future collector's item that we'll love to see again in a few years!
