A bicycle pump is an inflation tool equipped with a movable piston used to bulge or simply inflate a tire. To choose the right bike pump, let's take into account the use of these accessories. The bicycle accessories presented do not have the same use.
Loss of tire pressure is a normal phenomenon. It is therefore advisable to check the pressure of your tires before each outing. For this, the foot pump is ideal.
Its pressure gauge indicates the pressure remaining in the air chambers. If necessary, adjust by inflating the tire.
Determining the pressure needed to inflate a bicycle tire is not so simple. We have some recommendations for proper inflation which are first to respect the recommendations of the manufacturer. They are generally indicated on the sidewall of the tyre. They can be indicated in PSI (Pound per Square Inch) or in Bar. Never exceed the maximum recommended pressure.
On the other hand, the pressure takes into account different factors such as the weight of the cyclist, the type of practice, the weather conditions par example.
During a bike ride, you cannot take the foot pump with you. In the event of a puncture, we must repair it. The hand pump or CO2 inflators are therefore essential in this situation.
Once the wheel has been repaired and refitted, use the hand pump or a C2 inflator so you can get back on the road safely. With the hand pump, a pressure of 6 to 8 bars is hardly achieved. But it allows, despite everything, to inflate a tire and continue on its way.
Now, the different types of pump to inflate a bicycle tire have no more secrets for you. The right formula seems to be a foot pump at home and a CO2 hand pump or inflator to help out during your outings.
A large volume foot pump, possibly with an additional air tank for tubeless tyres, solid, stable and equipped with an accurate pressure gauge. It is stored permanently in the workshop or in the car.
A small hand pump completes it, to repair in the event of a puncture in the field. Competitors will prefer a CO2 pump in the field, which is faster but the cartridges are single use. In the workshop, a high pressure pump ensures par elsewhere a precise adjustment of the air suspensions.
A high pressure hand or foot pump capable of inflating to over 8 bars for the workshop. To take with you on outings: a CO2 pump and one or even two! Disposable cartridge suitable for high pressure (a 16g cartridge can, par example, inflate to 9 bars).
A basic foot pump allows you to inflate your tires from time to time efficiently and without getting tired. And for home-work journeys, a small hand pump in the bag will allow you to compensate for a puncture.
