different types of bike brake

THE DIFFERENTS TYPES OF FREINS FOR BIKE

From road bike to city bike passing par mountain bikes or electric bikes: each bike is equipped with a braking system at the front and at the rear, independent of one of the other. The entire system is made up of the brake calliper, the brake lever, the pads or cartridges, the cables and sheaths. The braking system must be adapted to your use and your practice for better performance and more driving comfort. Very different in their form, all ensure the function of stopping your bike in the best conditions.

On rim or on hub?

FREINS BY BIKE

TYPES BIKE BRAKE

OPERATION

Rim brakes

The brakes are activated by pressing a lever located under the handlebar grips; the lever sets the pads in motion which rub against the rim to slow the rotation.

Caliper brake, par side or center pull, Cantilever, V-Brakes, U-Brakes.

Disc brakes

Par mechanical action (cable) or par hydraulic action. Stirrups rub the disc par the pad bias and slow the rolling.

So that they are almost as powerful as V-Brakes the mechanical disc brakes and hybrides must be used with special so-called incompressible sheaths.

Drum brakes

Installed on the hub, in a circular drum, two brake pads (linings) rub against the inside of the drum.

p-brakesar coaster

Deceleration brakes, installed on the rear wheel on the drum brake principle.

TO NOTE

- All rim brakes without exception are made for use with a certain rim width. They will still brake if they are not, but it will never be the best braking they could be capable of.

ADVANTAGES

DISADVANTAGES

Rim brakes

Reliable, light, easy to assemble, inexpensive.

Fast wear, performance when rims are wet, regular maintenance, significant noise.

Disc brakes

Reliable, resistant and efficient in bad weather.

Weight, price, necessary compatibility between the brake, the wheel.

Drum brakes

Efficiency, resistant and efficient in bad weather.

Weight, reliability, complicated maintenance.

Coaster brakes

Efficiency, protected from bad weather.

Risk of skidding, double system imposed, complicated maintenance.

Find how to choose the right bike brake pads?

It is mandatory to be equipped with a braking system in excellent working order to ride a bicycle. It is therefore important to maintain and maintain your braking system in good condition. Changing pads or pads is quite easy to do, bleeding or checking the hydraulic system requires more advanced knowledge.
