For financial reasons, parents often buy a bigger bike for their child, so that the growing child can use it longer. However, for your child to enjoy riding the bike, it is important that they are able to control it safely. It is therefore essential that the bike is the right size. Typically, kids need three to four bikes growing up before they're big enough for an adult bike.
It is important not to put pressure on them when they are learning to ride a bike and not to forcer to take walks that make them lose energy! If your child feels comfortable on the bike and enjoys riding it, he will stick with it for the rest of his life and you can go on many great trips together.
Age: 12 to 36 months.
Child's height: less than 85 centimeters.
The child can discover a new means of transport from 1 years thanks to the ride-on (from 73 cm to 95 cm): he experiences the 4 wheels! From our evolutionary carrier, baby can even experiment with the balance bike position when he feels ready.
Age: 1 to 4 years old.
Child's height: less than 85 centimeters.
Ideal for the first beginnings: a balance bike that grows with the child.
Balance bikes allow even very young children to learn the essential techniques of cycling: like keeping their balance, which is not the case when using wheels. As well as coordination skills, such as bike controlar steering and braking. The height of the balance bike's handlebars and saddle can be adjusted.
With it, your child will be able to discover the learning of balance, propulsion and movement independently.
Age: 2 to 6 years old.
Child's height: 85 to 125 centimeters.
Many bikes intended for children between the ages of three and six have wheels which can be fitted as an option. However, it is recommended to ride without, car support casters make it harder to learn to balance, start and turn, and give kids a false sense of control.
It is the transition between the balance bike and the first "real" bicycle, equipped with a rear coaster brake and often a brake on the front wheel, possibly reflectors and a bell. However, these (small) children's bicycles are not suitable for the road and therefore do not have any safety equipment. Castors are often included in the delivery.
Age: 6 to 8 years old.
Child size: 1,20 to 1,35 meter.
These bikes represent the "coming of age" in the cycling world and offer a wider range of uses with road gears and equipment. It's now a full-fledged bike and kids can even choose the style they like, like a mountain bike.
Age: 8 to 12 years old.
Child size: 1,30 to 1,50 meter.
From the age of about nine, children receive bicycles with all the components and advantages of adult bicycles in terms of frame design, drivetrain and brakes. The only difference is their geometry, still kid-friendly with a sloping top tube and optimized for wheel sizes 24-26 inches.
Age: Over 12 years old.
Child size: 1,40 to 1,60 meter
Much like the 24-inch bikes, these young teen bikes are on par with the adult ones in terms of quality, features, and usability. So your offspring can easily keep up with the parents on longer tours.
The age brackets are given as an indication. All children are not necessarily the height indicated in each age group, it is for this reason that we advise you to take the child's height into account.
