SHIMANO in competition

In 1973, Shimano enters the professional peloton by becoming a partner of the Flandria team of Freddy Maertens. That year, a controversy broke out after the world championships, Eddy Merckx being accused of having furthered the interests of Campagnolo (by letting him win Happy Gimondi) rather than helping his compatriot Maertens.

Since 2000, the company has sponsored a large number of teams but no longer has a role as title sponsor (although some teams such as the team Sunweb or FDJ greatly contribute to the development of new high-end products).

In 2020, Shimano team more than the 3/4 of the professional teams.

For 2022, Shimano can be proud of having won the three Grand Tours and several Monuments of cycling with its riders equippedar the new DURA-ACE 9200-speed group.

The neutral breakdown service team of Shimano is present with its cars and motorcycles at major cycling events to change wheels, provide spare bikes and repair mechanical problems. Whether on the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix, the white paths of the Strade Bianche, the winding roads of the junior and para-cycling events or the mountains and valleys of the Tour de France Women with Zwift.
