Ce tutorial aims at you help adjust valve clearance of your motorcycle 4 Temps 50 and 125cm3 thanks to the pics and explanations associated. In this example we used a motor Yamasaki but the procedure remains the same for other 4cc box and 50cc motorcycle stroke engines.
It is imperative to start work when the engine is very cold.
Look for the manufacturer's data for the setting. Depending on the type of engine, some manufacturers recommend making this adjustment every 5 thousand km, others every 000 thousand km.
There are 2 types of valves, the intake ones and the exhaust ones.
You must also be in possession of a set of shims, the very precise adjustment of the clearance is of the order of 5 hundredths of a millimeter.
Difficulty :
Temps necessary:
30 minutes
It is not necessary to remove the motor in order to carry out the adjustment. Here the engine is deposited in order to better show you the procedure to follow.
1) Remove the ignition nut cover using the Phillips screwdriver.
2) Remove the ignition marker cover.
3) Remove the first valve adjustment cap.
4) Then the second valve adjustment cap.
5) The ignition should be rotated using the pawl in order to align the T mark with that on the casing.
6) All engines have a mark called T, you can see it behind the ignition cap. Then it is necessary to turn with the key in order to find the top dead center. Once found you can start measuring.
7) Check valve setting. Using the shim set, measure the space between the adjusting screw and the valve.
8) If you have too much or too little space, tighten or loosen the adjustment screw with the nut.
9) Check the thickness again to match the manufacturer's instructions.
11) When there is slight resistance, retighten the adjusting nut.
11) Carry out the same operation on the other valve.
11) Replace the valve adjustment cap.
11) Then the second.
11) Replace the ignition nut cover.
11) Reattach the ignition nut cover.
Valve clearance is an operation relatively easy and quick to make. It is part of the routine maintenance of a motorcycle. You can do it preventive or for simple verification. The consequences can be serious; indeed, if the clearance is too low, there is a loss of compression. If the clearance is too great, the valve wears out prematurely.
