Be well equipped for the quad during the winter

There is not yet a "special winter" helmet. When choosing your full-face helmet and in order to ensure comfort in all seasons, consider monitoring the following characteristics:

Buée: which pilot has never been embarrassed par fog? THE full face helmet with pinlock lens seems a wise choice. We advise you to wear a hood under your helmet. There are also products to spray on visors or masks to limit the appearance of fogging and encourage the evacuation of water droplets.

Bib: present on most helmet models, it limits the rise of cold air on the face

Nose guard: this small flexible element placed at the base of the screen deflects the breath, delaying the appearance of fog.

Ventilation: a ventilation in the chin guard allows pulser air on the screen to speed up demisting if necessary.

To avoid getting stuck in a big woolen scarf, choose a neck warmer or a balaclava. They cut the wind, avoid drafts. They are essential for driving comfort.

Keep hands warm

To maintain good maneuverability of the quad, it is imperative to preserve your hands. Whatever the qualities of the thermal inserts, the winter gloves must have long cuffs and be tightened at the wrists to prevent the cold from getting through. The gloves should not be too thick. There are many models suitable for riding in extreme conditions. gloves, to facilitate donning and doffing.

The heated gloves warm the back of the hand and the fingers. Equipped with autonomous batteries, you will notice after a few kilometers that the comfort offered greatly exceeds that of the heated grips.

Clothes

To be warm, there is really no secret. You have to multiply the layers. Three thin coats are much better than an even thick one.

You can accumulate layers (undershirt, sweater and jacket), but be careful not to be too tight, in order to remain free of your movements. Prefer thermal clothing and underwear which, while being fairly thin, retains heat well and regulates perspiration.

Thermal underwear : this first layer, coming from the world of outdoor sports, will multiply your resistance to low temperatures.

Breathable, thermal underwear can withstand very low temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Cotton should be avoided car it retains moisture.

For the second coat : intermediate, it is what will insulate against the cold and allow the evacuation of humidity to the outside. Polyester is recommended.

Last bastion : jackets and trousers must be waterproof, reinforced in certain places. The choice of jacket is crucial. It must be warm, waterproof, windproof and comfortable of course! You can easily find this rare pearl among motorcycle equipment. However, it can be expensive and won't pay off very well if you only plan a few outings this winter. The other alternative is to opt for a rain jacket (windproof and waterproof), and put on a warmer sweater underneath, or even a small down jacket. This will suffice for your rare outings, especially since the speed on a quad is not as high as on a motorbike: the cold felt will therefore logically be less significant. A waterproof over-trouser can also be welcome to face the rain.

Manufacturers also offer heated versions of their equipment (except headphones). Far from being anecdotal, this high-priced equipment provides real comfort and a wider range of use than you might imagine. Heated equipment is indeed useful in case of cold, but also of rain. They make it possible to maintain a good level of comfort and therefore to increase safety linked to the behavior adopted in the event of cold.
