Be well equipped for the quad during the winter

In order to be able to ride a quad all winter long, you should prepare well for your outing, both for equipment against the cold and for the quad.

RenforceYour equipment is essential for your comfort and safety. Rain, snow, cold, opt for suitable equipment. Remember: you are offering yourself more than comfort, but security. You’ll feel more comfortable hiking and avoid getting distracted par various inconveniences that could become dangerous. The extremities of the body are the most exposed, such as the top of the skull, nose, ears, fingers and toes. The blood hardly reaches the extremitiesar the internal organs need more heat and reduce blood circulation.

Manage the cold under the helmet

Sline pinlock helmet

There is not yet a "special winter" helmet. When choosing your full-face helmet and in order to ensure comfort in all seasons, consider monitoring the following characteristics:

Buée: which pilot has never been embarrassed par fog? THE full face helmet with pinlock lens seems a wise choice. We advise you to wear a hood under your helmet. There are also products to spray on visors or masks to limit the appearance of fogging and encourage the evacuation of water droplets.

Bib: present on most helmet models, it limits the rise of cold air on the face

Nose guard: this small flexible element placed at the base of the screen deflects the breath, delaying the appearance of fog.

Ventilation: a ventilation in the chin guard allows pulser air on the screen to speed up demisting if necessary.

To avoid getting stuck in a big woolen scarf, choose a neck warmer or a balaclava. They cut the wind, avoid drafts. They are essential for driving comfort.

Keep hands warm

To maintain good maneuverability of the quad, it is imperative to preserve your hands. Whatever the qualities of the thermal inserts, the winter gloves must have long cuffs and be tightened at the wrists to prevent the cold from getting through. The gloves should not be too thick. There are many models suitable for riding in extreme conditions. gloves, to facilitate donning and doffing.

The heated gloves warm the back of the hand and the fingers. Equipped with autonomous batteries, you will notice after a few kilometers that the comfort offered greatly exceeds that of the heated grips.

Clothes

To be warm, there is really no secret. You have to multiply the layers. Three thin coats are much better than an even thick one.

You can accumulate layers (undershirt, sweater and jacket), but be careful not to be too tight, in order to remain free of your movements. Prefer thermal clothing and underwear which, while being fairly thin, retains heat well and regulates perspiration.

Thermal underwear : this first layer, coming from the world of outdoor sports, will multiply your resistance to low temperatures.

The main function of thermal underwear is to retain body heat without causing a sauna effect on the person

Breathable, thermal underwear can withstand very low temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Cotton should be avoided car it retains moisture.

For the second coat : intermediate, it is what will insulate against the cold and allow the evacuation of humidity to the outside. Polyester is recommended.

Last bastion : jackets and trousers must be waterproof, reinforced in certain places. The choice of jacket is crucial. It must be warm, waterproof, windproof and comfortable of course! You can easily find this rare pearl among motorcycle equipment. However, it can be expensive and won't pay off very well if you only plan a few outings this winter. The other alternative is to opt for a rain jacket (windproof and waterproof), and put on a warmer sweater underneath, or even a small down jacket. This will suffice for your rare outings, especially since the speed on a quad is not as high as on a motorbike: the cold felt will therefore logically be less significant. A waterproof over-trouser can also be welcome to face the rain.

Manufacturers also offer heated versions of their equipment (except headphones). Far from being anecdotal, this high-priced equipment provides real comfort and a wider range of use than you might imagine. Heated equipment is indeed useful in case of cold, but also of rain. They make it possible to maintain a good level of comfort and therefore to increase safety linked to the behavior adopted in the event of cold.

quad boots

The ideal is to have specific boots high-top or high-top shoes. More enveloping and less fitted than the models dedicated to the circuit, the road boots are perfectly suited for outdoor use.ar extreme cold. The heated boots, equipped with batteries, did not have the expected commercial success. On the other hand, accessories such as insoles or heated socks provide exceptional thermal comfort, provided they are comfortable with the thread that winds along the calf.

Opt for thermal protection socks against the cold down to -40°C! Very comfortable to wear, these socks are suitable for both everyday use and professional use, they can be worn with safety shoes.

Keep your feet warm by choosing one of our models of anti-cold socks: breathable socks combining 4 warm materials (cotton, nylon, wool, acrylics), knee-high socks protecting the calf, socks in merino wool...

What are the protection and visibility standards for motorcycle equipment?

In addition to their thermal protection, make sure that all the equipment described above has approved, certified protective reinforcements.ar the regulatory markings on the labels:

Oil level. It is advisable to use a more fluid type 5W40 oil when you ride in order to promote its circulation and have better lubrication of the cold engine.

The cleaning of air filter is recommended, it is also very important to lubricate the vehicle well.

Also watch the quality of the tires. There is a wide range of suitable tires. winter tires provide better traction on ice. Acceleration and braking are better. For the proper functioning of the electrical system, we advise you to use a high-performance battery in winter.
