banner choose your helmet

Choosing the right helmet

A helmet should fit your head size, but comfort will also depend on the shape of the helmet. Also be careful to choose a slightly small helmet: over time the interior foam will settle and the helmet will be more comfortable. On trial, a helmet should not be so tight that it hurts your forehead or ears, but you should feel a slight pressure on your temples and cheeks and the helmet should not move when you turn your head. Be aware that, like walking shoes, a helmet can be unpleasant to wear when new.

Choose the right helmet size

Once you have chosen your type of helmet, you need to determine your size. How to take the right measures?

Using a tape measure (or a piece of string that you will measure later) assess the circumference of your skull, 2,5 cm above your eyebrows. This dimension noted, you can refer to the "head circumference/supplier size" correspondence table.

If you can fit a finger between the forehead and the helmet foam, it's too big. If you turn your head quickly, he shouldn't move an inch.

CAUTION: A helmet that is too big does not protect you!

If you hesitate between two helmet sizes, always choose the smaller one.

Choosing your motorcycle helmet when wearing glasses

If you wear glasses, it will be easier for you to use a jet helmet or a modular helmet. Wear your glasses during the fitting to assess comfort and favor glasses with thin metal frames. Some full-face helmets designed for wearers of glasses nevertheless have specific interior cutouts which allow the passage of the branches of glasses.

Description of your headset

interior helmet

The inside of the helmet

Most helmets are equipped with a removable and washable interior. Perfect for washing them after the summer. Some brands offer a hypoallergenic, antibacterial interior.

The weight of the helmet

Count on average 1400 g and up to more than 1550 g depending on the model. Modular helmets are generally heavier than full-face ones with an average of 1600g. The weight of a jet helmet, on the other hand, is around 1100-1200 g.

The difference is important during long journeys or at high speeds where the effort to stand facing the wind is increased tenfold. In order to avoid muscle fatigue and not hamper head movements, choose a helmet whose weight is reasonable for your morphology.

Helmet ventilation

The ventilation of a motorcycle helmet is essential to allow the evacuation of fog, but also to avoid overheating in the helmet in summer. If you choose a full-face or modular helmet, make sure it is equipped with air extractors.

Avoid helmets with side air vents which are often noisy or air vents at the level of the screen which can be unpleasant.

In general, the more you go upmarket, the more the research and development offices of the manufacturers optimize the ventilation and the aerodynamics of the helmets.
