Established in 1995 and held annually in the spring, the Erzberg Rodeo is part of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship.
International enduro event, some 1500 motor sports athletes try the adventure.
Originally the event was organized to revitalize the enduro world and the media coverage given.
The Erzberg ("mountain of ore") is a mountain located very close to Eisenerz, a town in Styria (Austria) where ferrous mining is very present. In two centuries, the Erzberg has taken on its characteristic look of an open pit mine, streaked with steps. To medieval exploitation, characterized byar small galleries or isolated quarries, had already succeeded, at the beginning of the 1870th century, a more rational set of shafts and galleries. Around XNUMX, the engineers, assured of the homogeneity of the deposit, went on to systematically attack, in the open, the sides of the mountain.
1 mountain. 1 runners. 500 checkpoints. And only a handful of runners crosses the finish line! Welcome to the cruel reality of the real highlight of Erzbergrodeo - the RED BULL ERZBERGRODEO which is considered motorcycle racingcross the most difficult in the world! Only the fastest drivers in theIron Road Prologue qualify for the most technically demanding off-road competition in the world.
Considered the toughest enduro race, the Erzberg Rodeo is the biggest off-road motorcycle event in the world. A clever mix of uphills and downhills, level with almost impenetrable gravel and woods deserts for a distance of 23 kilometers.
Only a select few manage to cross the finish line. Even if only 5% manage to finish the race, all the competitors share the same opinion: come back next year and beat the damn mountain….
The pilots go from the assembly, to the mud, par the forest, and nothing can stop them! This is why in 2012, out of 1 entered, there had only been 800 qualified and only 500 drivers to cross the finish line!
Economically, the ERZBERGRODEO is breaking record after record in this area in the (green) heart of Austria. More passengers and visitors equal more overnight stays, therefore more turnover for the local economy and an increasingly important reputation of the region abroad. national and international scale.
All the big names in the motorcycling world challenge the iron giant. Drivers such as the multiple winner of the Paris-Dakar Cyril Despres, Polish driver Tadeusz Błażusiak who won the race five times in a row, and Graham Jarvis, three times at the top of the podium, the last to win the Erzberg Rodeo in 2019.
The Erzberg is now divided into several races. The two major events are:
- TheIron Road Prolog: it's the infernal climb of the Erzberg mountain, 1500 participants on all types of vehicles. 30 meter steep climb, very steep… the first 500 to arrive will be the only ones selected for the following race.
- The Red Bull Hare Scramble: brings together the 500 best of theIron RoadProlog. The event takes place over 23 km, over 4 hours. On the menu: forests, mud, rockery… and of course the inescapable infernal climb of the Erzberg mountain.
