How to choose the right apron for your scooter?

What is an apron?

There are two types of protection! The ones you wear on yourself like a leg cover and the ones you attach to your scooter with aprons.

The difference ? The price, as you can imagine, but also and above all the practical and aesthetic aspects. But we know it well, there are circumstances where we make fun of not looking good when we are warm. Here is the thought made as soon as we tried the aprons. Those remaining on the scooter must respect adequate manufacturing and size in order to fully fulfill their role.

It is a real anti-cold barrier that can be transported. Shaped to suit its support, it can be universal or specific to a vehicle, on which it will adapt perfectly (or almost, depending on your dexterity).

The other advantage of certain models of scooter aprons is that they allow you to keep your saddle dry (or dust-free, frost-free) when parking. For what ? Quite simply to avoid sitting on an icy saddle or even better ending up with wet underwear after having had to sit on a soggy saddle.

How to choose the right scooter apron

This element must be adapted to you and your two wheels. Obviously, it is possible to obtain “inexpensive” equipment, but that means taking the risk that it has not been tested correctly and will not last long either. Therefore, favor major specialized brands, including the essential Toucan Urbano and his famous Thermoscud.

Scooter manufacturers also offer an optional apron, perfectly suited to their vehicle. This is generally produced par a third-party equipment manufacturer.

Solidity

An apron must be as robust as it is practical... and last over time. It must also resist the pressure of wind and speed. The faster the two-wheeler can roll (more than 1000cc), the more it will be necessary to choose a heavy apron, which does not flap in the wind and does not modify the stability of the scooter.

Impermeability

From heavy nylon to PVC, each material has its advantage in terms of lightness, rigidity and above all waterproofing to stay dry. Depending on the material of the apron, the seams are heat-welded, providing additional guarantee.

Lining

The wool or fleece lining may influence your choice. If it is removable, the apron can be used both in winter and in summer. Some models can also include a heating kit to provide heat.

Convenience

The apron must not hinder access to the neiman or your driving by hindering your feet par example and even less fly in the wind (imbalance and premature wear par friction).

And the passenger?

Some apron models are designed to also protect the passenger's legs more or less well.

Anti-theft system

The problem is that an apron is removable and therefore stealable. Some models incorporate anti-theft mountings with metal eyelets that secure them to anchor points, making them more difficult to steal.

Storage

With the sunny days, we may be tempted to ranger its apron and we will appreciate an apron that folds easily and takes up as little space as possible in the garage or cellar.

Caring for your apron

You can use a waterproofing product (spray) to apply regularly to your apron in order to increase its lifespan, even quality aprons lose their waterproofing over time. When hanging your apron to dry, avoid direct sources of heat.

It is It is not recommended to machine wash your apron.
