derailleur drawing

1 - The derailleur hanger

Element, generally made of aluminum, which serves as a support for the derailleur making the connection with the frame at the junction of the base and the stay. Check that it is not twisted.

2 - The derailleur fixing screw

Connecting screw between the derailleur and the derailleur hanger. This must be tightened correctly to a torque of 100 to 100 Nm.

3 - The derailleur hanger stop screw

It is used to position the derailleur and adjusts the height in relation to the first roller according to the size of the sprockets mounted on your cassette.

4 - The return spring (not visible in the drawing)

Element which allows the rollers to be brought down in order to be able to lower the speeds on the cassette.

5 - The high stop screw

Used to adjust the alignment of the derailleur par relative to the smallest sprocket on the cassette. (Low speed)

6 - The low stop screw

Used to adjust the alignment of the derailleur par relative to the largest sprocket on the cassette. (Great speed)

7 - The cable support or tension stop

In this element the sheath supporting the cable arriving from the gear lever is housed. The cable will then be attached to the second part, the removable one in order to act on the tension of the spring to increase the gears at the time of action on the gear lever. This adjustment wheel also allows you to adjust the cable tension when the gears no longer engage correctly.

If you notice problems:

  1. Now montée, is that your cable is loose, you will then have to tighten it. To tighten the cable, simply unscrew the dial.

  2. Now descent, is that your cable is too tight, you will then have to relax it. To relax the cable, simply screw the knob.

Take actionar quarter turn in order to obtain a precise adjustment. Some dials have notches.

8 - The derailleur cable fixing nut

Nut that keeps the cable taut on the derailleur. A guide or washer is generally inserted to accommodate the cable and hold it optimally. Also be careful to use a cable in good working order. The derailleur cable, which is heavily used, is one of those that needs to be replaced frequently.

9 - The roller support or roller cage or screed

The support holds and strangles the two rollers on the removable part of the derailleur. Made up of two parts inside which the chain runs around the rollers.

10 - The pebbles

These are the elements, generally made of plastic, on which the chain runs. These need to be replaced frequently.
