You want to make the 2-stroke mixture yourself for your chainsaw or brush cutter.
It is essential to have the right information so that your mixture is correctly dosed, with the right lubricant and quality fuel. Otherwise, you risk damage.
Depending on the manufacturer, the oil-fuel mixture can vary from 1.4% to 2.5%.
2 options are available to you: the so-called “homemade” mixture, i.e. made yourself, or the ready-to-use mixture.
Our selection: The ready-to-use mixture! It is of much better quality, keeps after opening for 2 or 3 years and is guaranteed to be the perfect balance for your equipment!
Your homemade mixture is obtained thanks to the mixture of gasoline: SANS LEAD 95 or 98 and a slight percentage of oil which can vary from 2 to 4% depending on the oil used: 2% for synthetic oil and 4% for mineral oil.
Our advice: Synthetic oil! Better for your engine, better combustion and much less polluting than mineral oil.
For gasoline, choose unleaded fuel, 5-SP95 or 10-SP 95 or SP98 depending on the machine. Be sure to read the manufacturer's recommendations carefully.
Before attacking the mixture, it is advisable to choose the good engine oil 2 time for your machine. Three types of oils are present on the market:
High efficiency engines generally prefer 100% synthetic oil.
The brands on the market offer quality products with more specific uses. Also find on our website: How to choose the right oil ?
The choice will be made according to the use of the engine. The higher the performance, the better the oil should be.
First of all, a quick reminder about liter/milliliter conversions: 1 liter of gasoline = 1000ml.
To obtain the volume of oil for a 1.5% mixture, you must therefore calculate as follows: (% of the mixture x volume of essence in ml) / 100 = volume of oil in ml to add, i.e. (1.5 x 1000) / 100 = 1.5x10 = 15 ml.
For 5 liters of gasoline and 2% mixture (2 x 5000) / 100 = 2 x 50 = 100 ml.
For more convenience, use an oil measuring cup in ml to know the quantity of oil to add to your essence without the fuss.
If your mixture is low on oil, or the oil quality is poor, there is a risk of engine seizure. The lack of oil will lead to abnormal heating of the moving parts of the engine, causing expansion of the metals.
→ An engine clogging problem: an overabundance of oil in the mixture blocks the conduits and clogs the internal parts such as the cylinder and the coating. There's nothing better than having a seizure!
→ Decreased power: adding too much oil or an inadequate quantity slows down your tiller. Its exceptional performance and remarkable power are forgotten...
→ Increased fuel consumption: a poorly dosed 2-ton mixture can consume more gasoline than before. Result: you frequent the gas station more and considerably increase your budget of the season!
→ Damage to the engine: a lack of lubrication or excessive lubrication of the engine can lead to premature wear of moving parts, which can even lead to irreparable breakdowns.
Gasoline is an extremely flammable product. Take care to keep away from any flames when filling the tank. Avoid smoking proximitated from the tool.
Before filling, turn off the engine completely. No filling when the engine is hot, very significant risk of fire in the event of overflow.
Open the fuel cap carefully so that the pressure dissipates.
Be careful not to spill fuel mixture on the appliance or your clothing.
If you spill any, clean your tool immediately and change clothes.
Remember to mix the contents of the tank well by shaking your bike a little. This will prevent the oil from remaining in the bottom without mixing with the gasoline. The mixture must be fairly homogeneous.
Too much white smoke coming out of your engine? Review your mixture, the quantity of oil must be too high.
Please note, the mixture will not keep beyond one to three months depending on storage conditions. You should therefore not leave it in the tank for too long. It degrades quickly and the repercussions can be catastrophic for the engine of your chainsaw or brush cutter. Obviously, the preservation of your mixture depends on storage conditions and ambient temperature. However, in an airtight container, away from direct sunlight and heat, the oil-gasoline mixture can be stored for several weeks.
Step 1 : Measure and note the amount of gasoline
Step 2 : Calculate the amount of oil according to the amount of gasoline
Step 3 : On a perfectly flat work surface, place your dispenser and pour in the quantity of oil required (following your calculation). Take a good look at the graduation to avoid an overdose.
Step 4 : Pour the oil into the gasoline container. In order to recover all the contents, dilute a little gasoline and stir.
Step 5 : Close the container and shake so as to make the mixture homogeneous.
Step 6 : Open the container and let the vapors escape.
Step 7 : Pour the mixture into your petrol tank.
If you have to use your mixture in several times, remember that its conservation is limited. Remember to mix well before use.
