The moped, more commonly known as the moped, or even the "mob", is a two-wheeler that appeared in Europe in the 50 'years. Although very famous for years to come, the scooter and boxed scooter quickly took over and people tended to forget about the moped. But since 50 many purists have decided to embark on the restoration of these magnificent vehicles, increasingly rare and prized.

It is important to note that, unlike other types of two-wheelers, there are few manufacturers of mopeds (Peugeot, MBK, Tomos and Piaggio). The advantage of the mob is that it was offered at a relatively low price and maintenance was very easy and inexpensive.

The moped or moped is equipped with an engine which must not exceed the 50cm3 (as for the scooters and the 50cc mopeds). The speed limit for a moped is 45 km / h and the equipment to be worn is the same as on a motorcycle or other two-wheeled vehicle.

Which brand of moped to choose?

As a rule, the choice of a moped is made byar nostalgia for a brand, a model. Many people decide to buy a vehicle similar to the one they had several years ago, or which they dreamed of having. Some models are no longer available at all on the market, even on occasion, but others remain a little more common (MBK 51, Peugeot 103...).

The different models of mopeds are relatively similar in terms of engine. The difference will rather be in the cycle part. You can par example choose one Peugeot 103 RCX with a longer saddle and a more "stretched" riding position or conversely a Peugeot Vogue with a smaller, triangular saddle, for better riding comfort with a more "upright" position.

You can also decide to get a French moped model, by choosing par example the brand Peugeot. What advantages? For the price at first (the last model being released in 2006, the prices are more affordable). In the second step, it will be much easier for you to find spare parts.

The famous French brand Peugeot has marketed many models of mopeds for many years. All enthusiasts of mob necessarily know the Peugeot 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 or the Peugeot BB. The brand was the first to offer moped models on the French market with the launch of the Peugeot Bima in 1951 then Peugeot BB in 1956. The first sportier models like the 103 RCX appeared during the 70 years.

MBK / Motobecane Mopeds

MBK, Formerly Moped, is the main competitor of Peugeot in the moped market. The brand launched in 1949 with the AV3 Motobecan. Many variants are offered (AV31, AV32, AV33 ...). IN 1983, MBK decided to bring to the market the model MBK 51 with many evolutions over the years (MBK 51 Club, MBK 51 Salsa, MBK 51 Magnum, MBK 51 West) until MBK 51 CF in 1988 which was the latest version of the brand.

Moped Piaggio Ciao

Brand Piaggio, world famous, has released only one model of moped (in 1967): the Piaggio Ciao. Despite this unique model, the Italian brand has sold over 3 million Ciao in 40 years. Which makes it the best-selling moped in mob history! This model has, however, known variations (Piaggio Ciao P, Ciao px, Ciao Mix ...). He is reputed to be athletic.
