The essentials to know before choosing your tires
Whether you are a motorcycle rider, scooter, moped or even a large cube rider, your tire will wear out in different ways. Among the most important points, here are the ones that we have retained:
- Tire pressure: In fact, an under-inflated tire will wear out much more quickly.
- The type of road taken: If you tend to drive on rather "damaged" roads, this will degrade your tires much faster.
- The type of braking: If you like to press the brake pedal hard, you should consider replacing the tires more quickly!
- The load: If you exceed the maximum load of your vehicle, the tire will wear out faster.
- Driving speed: It goes without saying that if you drive fast, the tire will deteriorate more quickly.
- The quality of the rubber: The more you take a high quality tire, the better the rubber.
Tire identification
In the example above: 110 / 80-18 62 P Here are the numbers:
110 / 80 = dimensions in millimeters (110 = tire width / 80 = tire height / width ratio)
18 = dimension of the rim in inches
62 = load index
P = speed index

Sports tires
Sports tires will be intended primarily for experienced pilots. Indeed the latter allow a perfect grip with the road when you take turns beyond 30 ° of angle, which is not given to everyone! In addition, sports type tires will tend to deteriorate much more quickly on conventional roads or when the climate is not suitable. These are offered at a very high purchase price. In summary, these models are primarily intended for professional pilots.
However, it is quite possible to equip your bike with sports tires. But remember, you'll have to learn to fly differently! A new type of tire means a new grip on the road and therefore a special adaptation of the pilot.
Sporty tires are only available on cubic capacity above 50cc for the moment.
Road tires
The road tire is clearly the most suitable for the majority of motorcycle, scooter and moped riders. Its main advantage is that it does not require a particular heating time (unlike a sports tire). Indeed the latter will adapt very quickly to the temperature of the road! In addition, it has a much thicker rubber and will therefore be much more resistant over time.
The main minus point of the road tire par compared to the sports tire is when attacking a bend. But once again, the difference will be in the quality of riding. In short, on so-called "classic" roads, choose a road tire that will last you longer and cost you much less to purchase!

Off-road tires
The Off-road tire can be of the type trail or enduro type. The difference between the two is not obvious but is of great importance. A tire trail is intended for pilots who are used to taking small country lanes, with a lot of earth and stones but not very hilly. Conversely, the enduro tire is preferred for pilots who are fond of earthy and above all very muddy and hilly terrain.
Off-road tires are installed on all motorcycle models cross and enduro. They mainly fit on 21 'rims but can also correspond to 17', 18 'or even 19' rim models.

Tubeless or inner tube tires?
Tires with inner tube
The tires with inner tube are the most common in the market. In fact, most two-wheelers have this type of wheel when they leave the factory. Discover the advantages and disadvantages of an inner tube tire:
+ Easy to install: Easy to insert into the tire and inflate.
+ Repair: In the event of a puncture, it is relatively quick and easy to install a patch.
+ Wide range of tires: There are many models of tubular tires.
- Tire pressure: Care should be taken to inflate your tire (so as not to be under-inflated or over-inflated).
- The puncture: The tire with an inner tube will burst much faster than a tubeless model. A big thorn par example, and the tire deflates.
Tubeless tires
Tubeless tires (tubeless) are less common in the two-wheel market. They are rarely found installed as standard. Discover the advantages and disadvantages of a tubeless tire:
+ Prevention: The tubeless tire requires an anti-puncture fluid. The latter, very efficient, will prevent many punctures.
+ Pressure: You can put the pressure you want without the risk of a puncture in a tubeless tire.

- Installation: The tubeless tire is only installed on tubeless rims. Rarer and more expensive pieces.
- The puncture: If you puncture with a tubeless tire, no patch possible! It will take you much longer to repair your wheel.

In order to get the right tire, we recommend that you first choose the type of tire you want (cross, road, sport, tubeless or tube ...), then choose the brand that interests you (Michelin, Continental, Servis, Pirelli...) and finally to choose rubber quality according to the use of your machine. More the budget is important, the better the quality of your eraser!
How to properly inflate your tires?
The inflation of your tires will vary depending on the type / displacement of your machine. In fact, the more powerful and heavier you have, the greater the pressure to put in the tires.
Note that as a general rule you will find the pressure of your tires on a sticker on your fork, on your swing arm or in the user manual of your two wheels.
Also note that if you are planning on doing a long, loaded ride, over-inflate your tires by about 0,3 bars.
