Troubleshooting > Failures par brand > FANTIC > My motorcycle FANTIC 50 does not hold idle
Your mà © caboîte 50cc FANTIC can't idle? This may be due to several issues. Your machine may not idle at all when you start it and you have to keep accelerating to prevent it from stalling. In most cases this is a carburetor adjustment problem. Indeed, the latter may be incorrectly adjusted, or parts may be unsuitable for the configuration of your machine.
If you find that your motorcycle FANTIC does not keep idling, we recommend that you first adjust the idle screw. It sounds like a very easy manipulation, but it is usually the number one cause of this failure.
To adjust the idle screw :
- Have a flat screwdriver.
- Turn your idle screw from one direction to the other with your engine running in order to find the precise moment for it to run as smoothly as possible.
- The more you tighten the screw, the more you increase the idle. Conversely, the more you loosen it, the more you reduce the idle.
Warning: If you have any doubts about the condition of your idle screw, we recommend that you replace it. It's a part that doesn't cost very much and is very easy to replace.
If the idle speed of your machine is still not holding up, then it is very often a problem with the carburetor adjustment. You are surely too rich in gasoline. In that case :
- Remove the cover from your air box. If you find that the idle is holding much better then this confirms that you are too rich in gasoline.
- Control needle carburetor. It is surely too high, so there is too much gasoline coming in. Lower it.
- Check the seals of the Air adjusting screw. Replace them if they are in bad condition.
- Replace your idle jet.
CAUTION: Carburetor adjustment is a very complex operation. Sometimes it is difficult to find the perfect setting. You can get closer to a two-wheeler professional who will be able to help you.
If the idling problem persists, it could be another type of fault, more serious than a carburetion problem. Here are some possible failures:
