Le Rotax 122 is a 125cc two-stroke engine that equipped the Aprilia RS 125 from 1997, replacing the Rotax 123. Although very close to its predecessor mechanically, it stands out par a modernized design, revised electronics.

Modern electronic ignition : The Rotax 122 uses a Nippondenso system with an inductive sensor detecting marks on the magnetic flywheel, coupled to a p-controlled ignition coilar a permanent contract.

Starter : The starting system is more robust and more tolerant. It is also easier to maintain.

Models with Rotax 122 are usually equipped with carburetors Dell'Orto PHBH 28, PHBL 24 ou VHST 28 with throttle position sensor (TPS). The intake diameter is smaller than on the 123 versions, but the pipes are interchangeable.
