Le Rotax 122 is a 125cc two-stroke engine that equipped the Aprilia RS 125 from 1997, replacing the Rotax 123. Although very close to its predecessor mechanically, it stands out par a modernized design, revised electronics.

Technical features

• Modern electronic ignition : The Rotax 122 uses a Nippondenso system with an inductive sensor detecting marks on the magnetic flywheel, coupled to a p-controlled ignition coilar a permanent contract.

• Electrical compatibility : Incompatible with the Rotax 123 system. The ignition curves are specific and slightly more delayed at low rpm.

• Starter : The starting system is more robust and more tolerant. It is also easier to maintain.

• Kick-startstarter : Conversion possible using parts from the originally equipped off-road models.

• Fixing the cylinder : Wider drive, with a 96 mm center distance between the studs on the exhaust side.

• Cylinder : Reference 223618 (220H), with reinforcement channel under the intake pipe, systematically present.

• Engine speed measurement : Electronic, via the ignition coil. Versions after 2006 sometimes incorporate a digital speed sensor.

Models with Rotax 122 are usually equipped with carburetors Dell'Orto PHBH 28, PHBL 24 ou VHST 28 with throttle position sensor (TPS). The intake diameter is smaller than on the 123 versions, but the pipes are interchangeable.

Compatibility & Maintenance

The Rotax 122 is an easy-to-maintain engine, with parts available and fitment compatible with post-1997 frames. It is best to avoid attempting to install it in a frame designed for a Rotax 123 without extensive modifications.
