Cleaning

Washing must be done outside and in the shade.

Quad cleaning

After letting your quad cool down, close the pot with the cap so that no water enters it.

Wet the quad with the cleaner or the water jet in order to remove the dirt at the level of the fairings, keeping a distance of approximately 50 centimeters to avoid any ™ damage the stickers and plastics of your machine by making movements from high to low.

Pay attention to bearings, radiator fins, electrical connections!

In addition to the body, also consider the underside of the quad.

Once your quad has gotten rid of the biggest dirt, apply the cleaner diluted in hot water on the fairings. Let it act for a few minutes. Sponge on remaining stains. Rinse using a water jet or a high-powered cleaner (always at a good distance from the quad and always from top to bottom). Dry with a clean cloth.

Particular attention will be paid to the cycle part in terms of shock absorbers, brake discs, front triangles and rear axle.

For the rims, remember to move the vehicle forward during cleaning so as not to forget part of the rim.

Cleaning the air filter

Le air filter protects your engine by blocking dust, sludge and impurities. The air box is the lungs of your quad and guarantees good air flow to the engine.

The air filter should be cleaned after each outing and replaced regularly. First, clean the air box hatch. After removing the filter, only if it is foam, immerse it in lukewarm water with added air filter cleaner (Motul type, Motorex...), clean it by hand, especially do not twist it. Rinse with clean water, let dry. Once your filter is dry, pour in special air filter product (filter oil) in a container, soak your filter with the liquid. Wring out without twisting (compressing the filter), let dry then replace the filter in the air box, don't forget to wipe the inside of the air box with a cloth .

If your filter is made of paper, it will be replaced when it is too dirty. Some machines are equipped with pre-filter foam that you can clean in soapy water. To check the condition of a paper air filter, pass a light through the filter. If damaged, replace it.

Radiator cleaning

Make sure the radiator is free of mud and debris. Also check that it has not been perforated.

Chain cleaning

Even though most quads are equipped with drive belt, the majority of sports quads remain equipped with a chain kit. The maintenance of the chain is essential.

First, check its condition: damaged links, chain tension.

Once this quick examination has been carried out, apply chain cleaner (degreaser) to the entire chain, the sprocket, the crown. With the special chain brush or a toothbrush, scrub away the accumulated dirt. Clean excess product with a cloth. After waiting around twenty minutes for the degreaser is dry, apply a lubricating product across the entire chain.

Brake cleaning

Using the brake cleaner, spray the product on the discs, rub with a cloth. Remember to also clean the brake calipers.

Visual and level control

Once washing has been carried out, a cold check of the levels is necessary. Coolant, level ofengine oil, brake fluid (don't forget the master cylinder covers to make sure they don't leak). For 4xNUMX quads, check the level ofoil in bridges.

The tires will be inspected to check that there are no tears, cuts or pinches as well as their wear. Equipped with a pressure tester or a manometer, check the tire pressure.

Remember to check the brake discs : a stone may be stuck between the caliper and the disc.

Disassemble your saddle to check the Battery, check that the terminals are neither oxidized nor loose.

In order to protect the various components from dirt, apply suitable protective products. Using a can of WD 40, spray on the parts which could oxidize and develop rust (especially the bolts). Apply a anti-rust product on possible impacts on the chassis. Finally, a special chrome product and a protective product for the fairing plastics will complete this maintenance.

Conclusion

A maintained quad is a quad that will cost less to repair...

This cleaning-maintenance may seem long and tedious. However, by following these cleaning tips, you will preserve your machine over time and you will avoid easily avoidable breakdowns and incidents.

We also recommend that you use a water jet rather than a high-pressure cleaner, which is too powerful and risks damaging the graphic kit par its strong pressure or spray water in inaccessible places.
