My boxed motorcycle DERBI Senda R DRD X-TREME 50 no longer brakes

Does your braking remind you of two steel sheets rubbing against each other? This characteristic noise indicates that your brake pads are very worn, which quickly leads to damage to your brake discs. Besides the noise strident, this can have consequences for your safety since brakes in poor condition can cause you to lose control of your vehicle in the event of sudden braking.

Braking is made up of four distinct elements:

- A lever or a pedal, which commands the "order" to brake.

- A cable, a rod or a hose which transmits the "order".

- The brake, generally attached to the frame of the motorcycle (caliper or flange).

- The moving part, generally fixed to the wheel. (disc or drum).

Drum brake and disc brake

The disc brake seems to be the most common in the motorcycle world. The drum brake is still used mainly for the rear wheel par example for the Kawasaki ER5, some scooters or customs.

The drum brake has been discontinued although its action is faster than a disc brake and independent of external weather. It is less powerful for a very simple reason: the disc is pinched par the pads and the action of the pistons directly on the pads allows a very high pressure and almost without loss.

Moreover, on a drum brake, beyond a certain force applied, the mechanism deforms, so we will lose braking power... Finally, the drum brake evacuates heat less well than a disc brake because of its confinement and it will therefore be much less durable.
