Practical advice: to optimise your drive train, you could add a front sprocket to the one supplied in the kit:

• for more acceleration, take a smaller gear
• for higher top speed use a larger front sprocket

To mount a chain with a split link you just need multigrip pliers and perhaps a flat screwdriver. Otherwise you would need a motorcycle chain splitter tool for riveted chains.
