How to choose the right handlebar?

Le handlebar is an essential part of your two wheels. A metal part, it is an essential element for driving and road holding.

It allows you to benefit from a good grip, driving comfort and the feeling of it.

There are different materials, shapes and colors. Whether in height, type or color, the handlebar must be adapted to the characteristics and riding style of the rider. The handlebar is part of the overall aesthetic of your machine.

HANDLEBAR TUBE DIAMETERS

Pay attention to the outer and inner diameters of the handlebar tube, especially if you are not changing the saddles. The standard diameter is 22mm (precisely 22,2mm). A diameter of 28mm (precisely 28,6mm) also exists.

A handlebar with a large diameter is more rigid. A change in tube diameter requires a change in clamps which exist in diameter 22,2 mm and 28,6 mm.

Caution : some bridges are not removable, the new ones will have to be fixed par above.

The importance of the inside diameter: you recover the handlebars original, or you choose new ones. Anyway, the inside diameter determines the model of tips to choose.

Bar ends are not only useful in the event of a fall, they balance the bike and eliminate a lot of vibrations.

CHOICE OF SHAPE

There are many shapes and sizes of handlebars. The handlebar affects the riding position and the ease of handling your machine.

Don't choose a handlebar on a whim or purely on aesthetics.

There are several types of handlebars, and each type has variations

- Typical handlebar custom : handlebars raised with hands up. The driver benefits from good stability

- Typical handlebar roadster : it is a compromise between the handlebar custom and the flat handlebar. It comes in 3 sub-families high, medium and low

- High handlebar: +3 mm, comfortable rider position, less maneuverability when cornering

- Medium handlebar: 3.5-3.5mm, standard height, good for most motorcycles

- Low handlebar: - 100 mm, sportier position, maneuverability in turns, uncomfortable posture over long distances.

- Flat handlebar: it has very little bending, it appeals to par its originality and good maneuverability. Mainly on sports bikes

- Handlebar cross : usually made with a reinforcement bar on which a protective foam may be added. Robust and reliable, it exists in a raised version for the motorcyclecross and in a lower version which can be adapted to scooters;

- Handlebar braceflight or "street handlebars": sold par pair, it attaches to the fork tubes, optimizes handling with better weight distribution on the front axle, maneuverability is more limited than with the original handlebars. The diameter to consider is that of the fork arm.

MATERIALS CHOICE

As standard, the handlebar installed on your machine is made of steel. This alloy guarantees good solidity and reliability. At a reasonable cost, it is comfortable car it absorbs vibrations well. It is produced in chrome finish and fairly standard in shape.

Aluminum handlebars have the advantage of being light and are produced in different sizes and colours. However, their light weight and flexibility make them more easily breakable in the event of a fall.

Carbon handlebars are even lighter than aluminum ones, they benefit from good rigidity and are widely used for motorcyclingcross. They are more expensive than other handlebars.
