motorcycle boots cross

Choosing the right motorcycle or quad boots

No matter how off-road you are, you need to protect yourself with boots cross. It is out of the question to take simple rubber boots for off-road motorcycling.

A rough course greatly increases the risk of nasty falls, fractures and dislocations. This is why it is important to orient yourself towards boots specially designed for off-roading.

Motorbikescross andEnduro are very physical sports practices, practiced in rough terrain. The feet are very stressed, both on the ground and on the motorcycle: motorcycle bootscross are therefore very rigid, solid. They go very high, almost to the knees, and fix the foot inside. They are really not made for road motorcycle riding car limit feelings.

The different types of motorcycle and quad boots

Rising, they protect your tibia, calf, malleolus and ankle thanks to reinforcements. All-terrain boots are also rigid, to ensure good ankle support.

On the market, you will mainly find boots intended for leisure use and others more oriented towards competition with a more advanced technicality.

If, on the other hand, you practice the quad, your boots will be lower.

In competition, you will opt for boots cross more technical like the Alpinestars all-terrain boots, designed with a TPU shell for better impact and abrasion resistance, anti-slip heels to keep the foot inside the boot, micrometric buckles in nylon and fiberglass to improve durability and strength. For the comfort of your motorcycle bootscross, you will have: a breathable lining, a waterproof and breathable membrane, internal protection against heat, microfiber gussets to eliminate water and dirt infiltration, an insole antibacterial foam and Lycra to optimize comfort, air vents offering optimal airflow, a closure system with micrometric buckles and Velcro for a secure and personalized fit and removable slippers.

Finally for protection, you will opt for boots cross offering you: heel and toe protectors for high abrasion and impact resistance, a reinforced tibia system, a calf protection plate offering impact resistance, a reinforced at the level of the selector, reinforcements for the ankles, malleolus, heels and tips of the foot, the non-slip and abrasion-resistant outsole.

All these criteria are to be taken into account when you compete. On the other hand, if for you cross is more of a hobby, you will indeed be less demanding on all these specificities.

Motorcycle and quad boots size guide

It is important to choose the right size. These being rigid, you run the risk of quickly having pain in your feet if the size of your boots cross is not suitable. It is therefore recommended to choose one size larger than your usual size. Not to be comfortable, because your foot would float in the boot and not be protected, but rather to allow you to put on socks cross which are thicker than others. They will bring you comfort by avoiding foot friction, and their absorbent and breathable fabric wicks away moisture to keep you dry.

Then measure your foot with a tape measure, from the big toe to the heel and refer to the size guide. Your foot should still be able to move a minimum in your boots, and your heel should be able to come off max 3mm. Closures par micrometric buckles and velcro will allow you a secure and personalized fit for your motorcycle bootscross.

The rigidity of these boots coupled with the thickness of the sports socks which is more important imposes to choose them in a size higher than your usual size. To know your size, you must measure the dimension of your foot between its extremities (from the big toe to the heel) and find the equivalence in size for the brand and the model, car there is no pre-established rule in this matter.

When trying on your boots, it is important to wear the same type of socks that you will wear when you will ride a motorbikecross. Your foot shouldn't move too much inside, but you still need to be able to move your toes enough and lift your heel no more than 2 or 3 millimeters.

If you have never worn motorcycle bootscross beforehand, they will feel tight and not very comfortable to walk on. Remember, they are not designed for walking, they are designed to protect your ankles, feet and shins from injury.

motorcycle bootscross are difficult to put on for a reason. When you walk, there is flexion and extension of your ankle. Extreme ankle movements, called hyperflexion and hyperextension, are very damaging to the ankle. Motorcycle bootscross are designed to protect you from this type of injury by limiting the range of motion available to your ankle joint. This can make the boots difficult to put on.

Some high-end boots incorporate hinge systems that protect your ankle from hyperflexion while allowing ease of ankle movement for shifting gears, braking, and walking.

GOOD TO KNOW :

You will only be able to enjoy the breathable properties of your boots if you wear functional socks. This is because cotton socks will retain moisture while functional socks wick sweat and moisture away from your feet into the shoe. The breathable membrane works and wicks moisture away from the shoe.

Turn them over for 5 minutes to remove most of the water and let them dry out of the sun with balls of paper inside to absorb the moisture. If your boots are leather, you will need to give them a good polish. Neats' foot oil is a product that will add shine to your boots if they are made of leather and will guarantee their preservation.
