Required material: 1 Phillips screwdriver, 1 needle nose pliers, 1 water pump pliers, 1 pipe wrench, 1 wafer set
- To begin, remove the pins (or screws) from the axle that holds the pads in place. Do this before disassembling the caliper, it simplifies the task.
- Unscrew the two bolts that hold the caliper to the fork.
- Remove the shaft and the metal protection. You can now remove the pads.
- Clean the pistons and the inside of the caliper with a cleaner and degreaser, non-corrosive so that it does not attack the seals.
- It is now necessary to push back the pistons of the calipers to reassemble the new pads which are thicker. Remove the brake master cylinder cover.
Once the cover has been removed, remove the gasket and protection. Be careful not to damage the screw head, for this use the right cruciform bit adapted to the screw head. There are two types of axial and radial master cylinder.
Don't forget to protect the fairings of your motorcycle car brake fluid has corrosive properties. If leaking, clean immediately with a clean cloth.
There are two methods to move the pistons back, without damaging them. The first is to replace the old pads and pry with a flat screwdriver.
The second is to use pliers. Put the pair of worn pads on one side of the piston, a rag on the other and tighten with pliers.
Once your pistons are pushed back, you can screw the master cylinder cover back on, having previously checked and adjusted your brake fluid level.
- After this step, you can now place the new pads and put the axle and the pins in place (or the screws) with the metal protection.
